Wellington Management today announced the launch of the Wellington Climate Strategy Fund (“the Fund”). This UCITS-compliant equity Fund seeks long-term total returns by investing globally, primarily in companies the investment team believes are directly addressing environmental sustainability or climate risks through their products, services or capital. Examples of themes that will be considered for the Fund include low-carbon electricity, energy efficiency, water and resource management, and low-carbon transport. This latest Fund launch expands Wellington’s range of sustainable investment UCITS solutions.
The Fund will be managed by Alan Hsu, Global Industry Analyst (GIA), who has 10 years’ tenure at Wellington conducting fundamental analysis and research on the utilities, energy and renewable-energy, and clean-technology sectors. He works closely with Wellington’s team of experienced GIAs, and also accesses insights from the firm’s Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) Research team. Alan is also able to incorporate insights from Wellington’s recently announced partnership with Woods Hole Research Center, the world’s leading independent climate-research institute.
Fund Manager Alan Hsu said: “We believe climate science, public policy and technology improvements will move us to a low-carbon future, with clear winners and losers along the way. Efforts to mitigate carbon or adapt to its impact across all sectors and regions create both risks that should be hedged and opportunities for potential long-term capital investment.”
Stefan Haselwandter, Senior Managing Director, Head of EMEA Global Relationship Group, said: “At Wellington, we recognise that a global transition towards a lower-carbon economy is under way. Our commitment to sustainable investing is highlighted by our strategic partnership with Woods Hole Research Center, the world’s leading independent climate-research institute. The aim of this partnership is to integrate climate science and asset management, helping to meet growing institutional and wholesale demand for sustainable investing. With this expansion of our UCITS fund platform, we believe Wellington continues to offer investors the flexibility to pursue a wide range of investment objectives.”
