13:45 - 14:15 Halting and reversing biodiversity loss: finance’s impact and dependency on natural capital

By Timothée Jaulin, Head of ESG Development & Advocacy, Special Operations, Amundi Asset Management

It is estimated that $44 trillion of economic value generation, over half of the world’s GDP, is dependent on biodiversity. Biodiversity is declining at an unprecedented pace. Nine planetary boundaries have been identified to define the environmental limits within which humanity can safely operate: nine of these are related to nature’s tipping points. Biodiversity loss must be addressed now to avoid undermining climate change efforts.

This presentation includes insights on new metrics to measure nature-related risk (such as the MSA), how Amundi calculates a biodiversity score, the new regulations and upcoming reporting standards (such as the Convention on Biodiversity and the TNFD) and how financial institutions can contribute to halt and reverse biodiversity loss through engaging with companies and investing in projects related to natural capital.
